We’ve been trying for two years to nail down a gig with popular Houston funk band, Fondue Monks and we finally got one. Saturday, Aug. 21 at Dan Electro’s on 24th St. in the Houston Heights will be the place to be. We’ll bring the rock, they’ll bring the funk and it will be a rockin’ funky good time. On May 14, 2010, we traveled to the studios of KPFT Radio in Houston to promote our latest single, Someone Came To Help Me, and talk about our upcoming gig at Rudyards. This is part one of our interview on the show RadioActive.

Our own Chris Rogers always gets great guitar sounds, whether he’s live or in the studio, it’s always rockin’. He is so good and puts out so much sound that many times he sounds like two guitar players. While he is creative and has quick fingers, we found out a lot of that sound has to do with his peddle board….and we have one legendary guitar player to thank.

We’ll be back on stage this Saturday, May 15 at Rudyards, 2010 Waugh Dr. in the Montrose area of Houston. This will be our first full-band gig since March 2009 and our first with new drummer, Mando Perez. This is also the first time we have played Rudyards’ since May 2008, a few hours after this performance at the Houston Art Car Parade. We will be debuting five new songs and playing some old favorites from our first two CDs.

Jeff and I debuted Someone Came To Help Me at the “Celebration of Life” event at The Methodist Hospital in Houston last year to a very enthusiastic crowd. He couldn’t make it this year, so Chris stepped in and did a stellar job.

It’s a very emotional event with transplant patients, caregivers, donor families and doctors all giving first hand accounts of how they have been affected by the transplant process. The song fit the stories perfectly and was very well-received by the more than 200 people in attendance.

This is a different type of gig for us. It’s pretty nerve-wracking to play in that environment. When you are in a club, it’s loud and you can get crazy. At this event, it’s extremely quiet, there is no stage so people are sitting right on top of you, staring and listening intently and then there’s the emotional factor that raises it to a whole another level. We were both a bit nervous when we played it the first time at the start of the event, but we slowed it down the second time at the end and it was a much better performance.

All in all, it was a great event. Anytime you can sing your songs during the work day, it’s a good day.

Jeff and I were asked to play our new song Someone Came To Help Me by the folks at LifeGift of Houston. The group was celebrating it’s second annual “Donate Life Month” event. The rain held off long enough for us to do the song for transplant patients, donor families and other dignitaries who gathered at the Texas Medical Center (TMC) Commons. Tomorrow (Friday, April 16) George and Chris will do the same thing for a similar event sponsored by The Methodist Hospital Transplant Center.

We have recently parted ways with our drummer of nearly 3 years, Steve Salazar. Steve is a phenomenal musician and an even better person. We had a great time working with him and wish him nothing but the best.

That means we are on an all out search for a new drummer. So, if you fling the sticks -- no that is not a euphemism for sex -- here are some things we’re looking for.

• Live performance experience -- circus performing doesn’t count
• Solid rock music skills -- i.e. big foot on beat 1
• Reliable Transportation -- preferably a 1970’s Kustom van with shag carpet, but we’re not picky
• Quality gear -- that Wal-Mart kit you have in your garage won’t cut it
• Personal reliability -- make us wait and we start to cry because we’re sensitive like that and clearly you don’t love us any more 
• Good attitude -- well, as much as can be expected from a drummer (I keed!)
• Availability for minimum 1 rehearsal per week and average a couple gigs per month -- mostly biker bars and tupperware parties
• Ability to travel -- mostly short weekenders in state, but the occasional small tour (1-3 weeks) - willingness to sleep on the roof of a van a PLUS!

We don’t need someone utterly dedicated to what we do. This isn’t Single White Female. We just want a rock solid, reliable musician who is willing to rehearse enough for us to learn new material and have some fun.

We’re serious about what we do, but we want to have a good time too.

Truthfully, what we really wanted to do was communicate better with our friends – the people who enjoy our music and those who have yet to realize how awesome we are.

As music fans ourselves, we love hearing about what our favorite artists are doing. We want to know not just the bland details of their daily lives, but the real, interesting, behind-the-scenes stuff that gives us an insight into their lives.

That’s what we hope to do hear – let you see what it is like to work inside an independent rock band making music in Texas. If you have any thoughts, feedback, recipes for chili or ways to make millions that don’t involve cheap Asian slave labor or black market babies, let us know. We’re game for just about anything.
